Horizon Honors Charter School, City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation and the Pecos Pickleball Club. by USAPA Ambassador Steve Manolis
The ultimate pickleball party. Nearly 400 students, parents and teachers came out from Horizon Honors Charter School to Pecos Park for games including pickleball, cornhole, basket ball and more. We gave away paddles, bags, hats, pball towels and balls in prizes and contests.
We worked together with the Parent Teacher Organization, the school PE instructors, the City of Phoenix and our local club …a perfect formula that had parents and teachers playing with kids, kids playing against parents and their teachers, kids playing with kids.
We have plans for a kids only tournament next and a few other parties lined up…..Tournaments and Leagues were the most asked for among teachers, kids and parents….they want to expand further.
We have a great group of club volunteers, Denise Smith, Susan Manolis. Thom Young Richard Kim, Karen Maish, Akira Kakisawa, Maria Escobedo, Kathy Miller, Erna Taylor, Carolyn Cafeiro, Kelly Quek, Hector Camacho, and Russ.
The above was free open to anyone, had over 400 people, about 200 played pickleball or participated in the challenges and games, we gave away about $1,500 in prizes including 12 paddles, several dozen balls and hat’s, pickleball bags cotton wrist bands, towels, t-shirts and other items….an everything was and we have a ratio of 2 season pb players at every court. This is our 3rd time doing this.
